Global Formulation of the Synthetic Storm Technique Oriented to Satellite Link–Budget Design

We have updated the global Synthetic Storm Technique (referred to as SST) by reformulating it according a larger database of rain rate time series collected in several sites different climatic regions. For each site, average annual probability distribution attenuation obtained with SST, PSST,gloA, slant path, was compared that given full PSSTA, which we considered experimental data. The test performed for frequency ranging from 10 100 GHz, elevation angle θ 20° 60° and probabilities 10% 0.01%. SST tends underestimate approximately θ≤30° about 20% 30°<θ<60° range 0.1%, 15% 0.1% any probability, error is zero θ=90° because at zenith, coincides SST.
